Filtration

The production of Elan Whey Protein uses cross-flow microfiltration. Cross-flow microfiltration and ultra-microfiltration utilise the molecular weight of whey. Whey is heavier than lactose, and through the use of a ceramic membrane, the two are separated. The whey is retained in the membranes, while lactose and other unwanted components are not. The advantage of this method is that all the benefits of whey are preserved, resulting in a very high protein percentage. However, this process is quite costly.
